Tiffany has launched one of its most complex watches to date, inspired by the company’s emblematic Bird on a Rock.
The white gold Bird on a Flying Tourbillon costs $305,000 and is being produced in a limited edition of 25.
It incorporates a flying tourbillon mechanism – hallmark of the most complex high-end mechanical watches. It is designed to counteract the effects of gravity on a watch’s accuracy, appears to float within the watch face, and is visible under a dome of faceted sapphire crystal.
Artistically the Bird on a Flying Tourbillon draws inspiration from Jean Schlumberger’s celebrated “Bird on a Rock” brooch, created for Tiffany & Co. in 1965.
It is set with 848 diamonds (tcw 4 carats) and features a prong-set 0.42 carat solitaire diamond as the winding crown.
