A super-rare Patek Philippe watch – one of only three ever made – sold for $8.42m at Christie’s in Hong Kong.

It went for well above its low estimate of $5m but below its $10m high estimate.

The 18K yellow gold two-crown Patek Philippe World Time, reference 2523J, was the highlight of the Important Watches Featuring The Generations & Timeless Opulence Collections.

Only 12 watches of that reference were made with enamel maps – six of North America, three of South America and three of Eurasia (including the watch just sold).

As for the other two, one is in Patek Philippe’s private collection in Geneva and the other was sold by Phillips Geneva for $7.7m in 2021.
