The Camden Watch Company, an independent British brand based in the heart of Camden founded by wife and husband team Anneke Short and Jerome Robert, has teamed up with The Chap’s editor, Gustav Temple, for a new edition to their No.27 range of watches.
Having met Gustav in 2014 when The Camden Watch Company first launched, Anneke and Jerome had been in discussions with the editor more recently about a collaboration. Taking inspiration from their other vintage inspired timepieces, the team got to work on creating a dial which reflected both of their ethos as well as bring a bit of fun with The Chap icon (a silhouette figure of a gentleman in a trilby, wearing a monocle and smoking a pipe). There are two dial versions for this venture. The cream dial features large black numeral hour markers with burnt orange hands while the black dial features large cream numeral hour markers and hands.
The dial is protected by a domed crystal surrounded by a stainless steel polished case with softly brushed sides. The timepiece will be available on a tan leather strap or a stainless steel mesh strap.
Speaking about the collaboration, Anneke Short, co-founder of The Camden Watch Company says, “We wanted to work with The Chap to produce something which reflected our own vintage inspired timepieces while still being playful to reflect what the magazine is all about.”
Gustav Temple, editor of The Chap says, “The Chap has spent the last twenty years singing the praises of classic vintage watches, so when the opportunity came along actually to design a watch inspired by the golden age of British and Swiss timepieces, it was a joy to collaborate with the Camden Watch Company. The wristwatch they have produced perfectly captures the sartorial spirit of our publication, its vintage ethos and our celebration of all things gentlemanly.”
The Chap was founded at the end of the 20th century in a pub in South London by two men who felt they were not being served by the men’s magazines of the time. The so-called ‘Lads Mags’ didn’t feature any advice about which cravat to wear, where to buy a monocle or how many olives should go into a Creole Scream.
