GCDC partners with IJL to showcase work from the UK’s leading lights

The Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council (GCDC) returns to International Jewellery London (IJL) for the formal launch of the 2018/19 edition of its annual competition, The Goldsmiths’ Craft & Design Council Awards.

These prestigious Awards inspire and encourage excellence and skills development among graduates, apprentices, designers and masters working in jewellery, silversmithing and the allied trades.

To highlight the quality of design and craftsmanship, the GCDC will be showcasing a number of winning pieces for its 2017/18 event at IJL, alongside a number of short films, which will provide visitors with exclusive insight into the winners and workings of the annual awards.

In addition, and new for 2018, GCDC has partnered with IJL to curate Uniquely UK, an exhibition of inspiring signature pieces from 13 of the UK’s leading jewellery designers, as never seen before at the Olympia-based trade show.

This exclusive inaugural exhibition and promotion will feature works from designers that have all previously won accolades at the GCDC Awards.

The Council’s consultant secretary and organiser of the Uniquely UK campaign, Brian Hill, , shares: “This is a super opportunity and unique promotion to demonstrate and celebrate fabulous examples of design-led, distinctive jewellery from some of UK’s top designers, all of which have won prizes in the Goldsmiths’ Craftsmanship & Design Awards. Each Uniquely UK designer has links with, and supports our annual competition, which itself encourages, supports and promotes excellence for the profession.”

Last but no least, GCDC will also host a special IJL Catwalk show of award-winning jewellery from the 2018 competition, on Monday September 3 at 12pm.

Speaking of the GCDC’s presence at IJL, council chairman, Andy Putland, comments: “We are really looking forward to once again be part of IJL and to meet those keen to take part in our prestigious annual awards, whether new or established designers, apprentices and those considered masters of their craft. The GCDC Awards are going from strength to strength gaining increasing industry recognition of their importance and value.”
