Collection Spotlight: Suzanne Kalan’s Evil Eye Fireworks Jewelry

Suzanne Kalan finds inspiration all around her, but especially in her travels. And it’s her worldly view—acquired from time spent in Beirut, Montreal, Kuwait, and Los Angeles—that led her to create a unique take on the evil eye with her Evil Eye Fireworks Collection.

“The history of the evil eye resonates with so many different cultures,” she tells JCK. “I grew up always wearing evil eye pieces, and I wanted to design a collection with my signature style.”

Her often-imitated scattered settings of baguette-cut diamonds—lean little cuts once relegated to vintage numbers in estate cases that were reborn in Kalan’s vision a few years ago—are on prominent display, serving as eyelashes that surround irises of Sleeping Beauty turquoise.

“The turquoise stone is meant to protect you from misfortune and bad karma,” she adds.

Pieces are made in 18k gold and are ready to ship now. Some 17 SKUs debuted to the trade in November. Buy-in is a minimum of at least 10 pieces. Retail prices start at $850.
