Beyonce is joining jewelry designer Lorraine Schwartz to select two black students for scholarships at the GIA.

They became friends through a shared love of jewelry and established The Beyoncé Knowles-Carter x Lorraine Schwartz GIA Scholarship.

It will fund tuition and expenses for two successful applicants to the GIA’s Graduate Gemologist distance learning program, which teaches the practical skills needed to evaluate diamonds.

“We both believe that learning is constant. This is a chance to learn from the best, create generational wealth and turn a love of gems into a career,” said Beyonce.

The US singer is among Schwartz’s high-profile jewelry clients, alongside Blake Lively and Kim Kardashian.

The closing date for scholarship application is 16 March.
