Russian diamond producer Alrosa Group reported robust diamond sales performance for both rough and polished stones during the first month of the year due to stronger demand.
The company said it sold US$504.5 million worth of rough and polished diamonds. Rough diamond sales by value amounted to US$499 million while polished diamond sales reached US$5.5 million.
“Earlier this year, we have seen good demand for the whole assortment of our diamond products. It was supported by positive trends in the major sales markets backed by good retail sales results in 2017, including the Christmas season, and growing polished diamond prices in January,” commented Alrosa Deputy CEO Yury Okoemov.
