The renowned Intergem trade fair, a staple of the gemstone and jewelry industry, has officially canceled its 2025 edition due to dwindling exhibitor participation. The event, originally scheduled for April 11–13, 2025, in Idar-Oberstein, Germany, was set to mark its 40th anniversary but has now been put on hold as organizers struggle to attract enough local and international exhibitors.
Despite recent editions hosting approximately 90 exhibitors, organizers noted a significant decline in interest, particularly among regional participants. In a statement, they acknowledged the challenge and revealed that new strategies for a future relaunch were actively under discussion.
Idar-Oberstein, with its 500-year legacy in gem cutting, has long been recognized as a global hub for the industry. The city’s Mayor, Frank Frühauf, lamented the cancellation, calling it a major setback for the region.
“Intergem has been the flagship event for our precious stone and jewelry sector. Its absence is a great loss, but we must work together to ensure that Idar-Oberstein once again shines as a meeting point for the global gem industry,” he said.
With the event’s uncertain future, industry leaders and local businesses will be watching closely to see how the trade fair evolves to meet the changing demands of exhibitors and attendees alike.
