Bonhams to Sell Barbara Walters' 13-ct Engagement Ring

Jewelry, clothes and works of art owned by Barbara Walters, the iconic US journalist, are to be auctioned by Bonhams in New York.

Among the highlights is a Harry Winston diamond ring, weighing 13.84 carats (estimate: $600,000 – $900,000), which she received from Merv Adelson, the real estate developer and TV executive who was her third and fourth husband (They married and divorced twice).

Other lot include a pair of JAR gemset earrings (estimate: $200,000 – $300,000) and a ruby and diamond brooch ($12,000 – $18,000).

Walters (pictured) became the first female co-host of a U.S. network news program, on NBC’s Today show and the first female network news anchor, on ABC Evening News.

“Barbara Walters was a remarkable woman who conquered many milestones throughout her illustrious life,” said Bonhams CEO Bruno Vinciguerra.

“We are privileged to present her collection and recognize the immense importance of preserving her legacy, ensuring that her achievements continue to inspire and captivate generations to come.”

Walters died last December, aged 93, after suffering dementia. She had an estimated net worth of $170m.
The auction takes place on 6 November and there will be an online auction from 29 October 29 to 7 November 7. Net proceeds will benefit charities dear to Walters.
