BlueRock Reports Record Output after Lockdown

British miner BlueRock reports record output since it re-opened Kareevlei, in South Africa, after COVID-19 restrictions were eased.

Production has been averaging almost 2,000 tons a day since 11 May 2020, up almost two-thirds on Q4 of 2019.

Modifications to its ore-processing equipment have increased production at minimal cost and reduced operating costs at Kareevlei where five kimberlite pipes yield extremely high value-per-carat diamonds.

BlueRock announced last month that it will brand its stones as Kareevlei Diamonds and sell them in Antwerp to attract more buyers. In an update released today, it said it currently had 2,400 carats diamonds in stock.

Executive chairman Mike Houston said: “The health and safety of our employees remain of paramount importance to us and as such, we continue to take great care with regards to carrying out the new safety precautions at Kareevlei.

“In line with this, I am pleased to report that there have been no cases of coronavirus at the mine.”
