It’s amazing what a beautiful piece of jewelry will do to you. Take me, for instance: I have this bee ring that I absolutely love to wear—a costume piece, but it brings me joy nonetheless. I admire the little creature on my finger, sparkling with black stones, its wings stretched across my hand. But boy do I run the other way if a real bee tries to join my picnic. In my defense, my ring would never sting me, but still. It’s something that I’ve always felt a little weird and hypocritical about.
