An extraordinary 3.43-carat fancy vivid purplish pink diamond ring by Moussaieff sold for around HK$58.82 million (US$7.52 million) at Christie’s Magnificent Jewels Spring Auction 2019.
The ring, known as the, was the top lot at the sale, which realised a total of about HK$348.64 million (US$44.61 million).
Other star performers at the auction were the Grand Muzos, a pair of 23.34-carat and 23.18-carat Colombian emerald earrings, which were snapped up for around HK$35 million (US$4.47 million) or almost US$100,000 per carat.
A jadeite cabochon ring and a pair of jadeite cabochon earrings both doubled their estimates with spirited bidding in the saleroom, achieving HK$9.48 million (US$1.21 million) and HK$9.24 million (US$1.18 million), respectively.
The auction welcomed participation from 130 buyers from 17 countries and four continents, according to Christie’s.
Vickie Sek, chairman of Jewellery Asia at Christie’s, commented, “Asian collectors continue to pursue the best across all categories at Christie’s Hong Kong as seen in jewellery, Asian art, watches, and wine.” The auction house is holding the Maharajas & Mughal Magnificence auction on June 19 in New York.
