Stars play with vibrant gemstones and statement necklaces at 2019 Met Gala

During the most anticipated fashion event of the year, stars took their red carpet jewellery game up a level last night at the 2019 Met Gala.

Dressing to the theme, ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’, jewellery was used to adorn over-the-top, flamboyant outfits, and dispel the myth that less is more.

For last night’s look, the more sparkle, the bigger the gemstone, and the larger the piece – the better!

Statement pieces were seen left, right, and centre, with brands such as Tiffany & Co, Harry Winston, and Gucci in the spotlight.

Tiffany & Co was seen on the likes of Kendall Jenner, Alicia Keys, and Ezra Miller, all of which were sporting pieces from the brand’s iconic Blue Book.

Lady Gaga, who has been named as the star who stole the show, also wore Tiffany jewels, with a striking butterfly necklace anchoring her multiple looks on last night’s red carpet.

While usually, statement earrings are the order of the day on the red carpet, this year’s Met Gala theme called for more striking necklaces, many of which included vibrant gemstones paired with white diamonds.

JLO wore a one-of-a-kind 65.32-carat cushion-cut purple sapphire, masterfully set into a diamond necklace by the House of Harry Winston, and Lily Collins debuted a Carter high jewellery necklace crafted with emeralds, onyx and diamonds.

Although that’s not to say big earrings didn’t grace the red carpet, stars such as Kylie Jenner in Lorraine Schwartz purple sapphire earrings, Celine Dion in Fred Leighton Art Deco designs, and Serena Williams in classic de Grisogono placed the emphasis on their earpieces on the night.

And of course, for a theme such as ‘Camp: Notes of Fashion’, Swarovski crystals were needed to add sparkle plenty to outfits.

To name but a few, pop princess Katy Perry illuminated in a chandelier dress featuring crystal stones, pendants and functional light components from Swarovski; Rosie Huntington wore an elegant dress featuring 80,000 Swarovski crystals, and Cara Delevinge partnered her rainbow outfit with a multi-coloured Swarovski crystal adorned cane.
