IWC is planning to release the Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar Edition “Rodeo Drive” that will be sold exclusively in the Swiss watch brand’s boutique on the famed shopping district in Beverly Hills. It boasts a perpetual calendar, a black ceramic case, and a blue dial.

The perpetual calendar identifies different month lengths and leap years automatically and will work until 2100 without needing a correction. The double moon phase display at 12 o’clock shows an inverted view of the moon in the correct position in the northern and southern hemispheres and takes 577.5 years to require an adjustment by one day. Subdials display the date and power reserve at 3 o’clock, the month at 6 o’clock and the day of the week with a small second-hand indicator at 9 o’clock. Between 7 and 8 o’clock is a small window that displays the year. All of the perpetual calendar hands are in black while the time function and power reserve hands are white. The dial is completed with white Arabic hour indicators.

The watch is powered by IWC 52615 in-house caliber with the company’s Pawl automatic winding system, invented by Albert Pellaton about 60 years ago and update by the brand ever since. Like all of the 5200 series IWC calibers, the notably heavy-duty components of the winding mechanism are now made of ceramic that the company says is virtually wear resistant. The two barrels build up a power reserve of seven days. A soft-iron inner cage protects the movement from magnetic fields and a front crystal protects against displacement due to sudden drops in air pressure.

The watch is housed in a 46.5mm black ceramic case with a screw-down crown and a titanium caseback marked with the “Rodeo Drive” moniker. A black fabric strap completes the watch.

The Perpetual Calendar Rodeo Drive will retail for $33,000 and will be available October 2019 exclusively at the IWC Rodeo Drive boutique.
